In the seventies, when there was a severe shortage of food in the country and India had to import food grains from the United States to meet its food needs, our forefathers, through hard work, took loans to adopt new technologies. Since then the governments of the time have set up government Mandis and MSPs for the procurement of foodgrains, albeit due to rising costs and non-implementation of recommendations like the Swaminathan Commission. The economic condition of the farmers was not perfect but it was much better than the farmers of other states, the only reason being that the MSP and government procurement arrangements were guaranteed.
Agriculture is also the backbone of India’s economy. In the days of Kovid, when the country was locked down, all the industrial sectors went into deficit. The people are being given the opportunity to set foot in the country in the form of three black laws, against which our farmers, laborers, the elderly, and women are all camping on the wings of Delhi. To ensure that the production of every farmer sitting in every corner of the country is procured at MSP and the government maintains its monopoly on the system of procurement and distribution of foodgrains because if the agricultural sector is completely taken over by corporate houses then Thousands of millions of people in India will be deprived of even a full meal.
